Unfortunately, domestic violence often plays a big part in Family Law matters. Nothing is more important than the safety of you and your children.
Therefore I am often asked ‘can I get an intervention order?’
The answer is that if you have been exposed to certain types of behaviour, then you and your family may be entitled to the protection of an intervention order. In Victoria the primary piece of legislation dealing with intervention orders is the Family Violence Protection Act. This law sets out many of the circumstances during which you can get an intervention order.
These include:
- Physical abuse
- Sexual abuse
- Emotional or psychological abuse
- Economic abuse
- Or behaviour that causes you to be fearful for your safety.
If you think you may have been exposed to any of these behaviours, it is important to get proper legal advice. You may not realise it, but you and your family may be entitled to the protection of an intervention order. At Testart Family Lawyers, we have extensive experience in dealing with intervention orders. So call now for a free initial consultation. Because nothing is as important as the safety of you and your children.
